LADY REDSKINS REMAIN UNBEATEN, WIN ST. JOHN CLASSIC

            ST. JOHN – Playing at the girls St. John Mid-Winter Basketball Classic, the Little River girls remained unbeaten as they finished out the week with a semi-final win over St. John followed by a Classic Championship victory over Inman on Saturday.

 

            In the semi-final against tournament host St. John, the Lady Redskins held a four-point, 8-4, lead at the end of the first quarter before pushing the advantage to eight at 21-13 heading into the halftime break. After running the lead to 19-points, 38-19, at the end of the third quarter, Little River cruised in for the final 18-point, 46-28 victory.

 

            Arika Feldman had a huge game with a game leading 16 points while pulling down a team leading eight rebounds, making four steals, dishing  out a pair of assists and making one blocked shot.

 

            Also reaching double digits in the scorebook as Saelyn Raleigh with 10, plus grabbing four rebounds and recording both three assists and three steals. Adelynne Strecker only had three points, but she led the team in both assists with six and steals with five while also nabbing seven rebounds.



            On Saturday, the Lady Redskins nailed down the classic championship with a 14-point, 67-53, win over Inman, the eighth ranked team in Class 2A.

 

            Holding just a one-point, 19-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Redskins outscored the Lady Teutons 21-11 in the second period to take a solid 11-point, 40-29, advantage into the locker room for the halftime break before hanging on for the final 14-point win.

 

            Four Lady Redskins put double digits in the scorebook led by Arika Feldman with 16 while Evie Look scored 15, Havana Olander  finished with 13 and Avery Lafferty pitched in with 12. Saelyn Raleigh just missed making it five with eight points.

 

            Lafferty nearly had a  double-double  as she recorded a game high nine rebounds as the Lady Redskins pulled down a game total of 36 rebounds, 14 on the offensive end and 22 off the defensive boards. Besides Lafferty, Feldman, Olander, and Lucy Wright each grabbed six rebounds.

 

            Raleigh directed the offense and passed out eight assists.

 

            Now 12-0 for the season and still ranked number one in Class1A Division I , the Lady Redskins were scheduled  to play Herington on Monday followed by a home battle with Sunrise Christian Academy on Friday.
