LITTLE RIVER – After nearly claiming a state championship, the Little River girls have six players returning with starting experience as they look to do as they did in volleyball, claim victories and hopefully a state title.

In 2024/25 the Lady Redskins dominated the Wheat State League schedule, going 8-0, and came within one win of the Class 1A Division I state title (losing to unbeaten Centralia) while finishing 22-1 for the season.

Beginning his third season in charge of the Lady Redskin program, all Cy Rolfs has done is gone 46-2 in his first two seasons while winning both the St. John Mid-Winter Classic and the Goessel Bluebird Pre-Season Classic tournaments a year ago with Brad Crump as his assistant.

When asked about team goals for the upcoming season, coach Rolfs responded by saying, “We want to improve every day and practice, compete as hard as we can each time we step on the court, and be great leaders both on the floor and outside of our sport.”

Little River returns six players with starting experience and when they put their season averages together, they could account for 61.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 24 assists, and 15 steals per game.

The top returnee of the starters is Arika Feldman, a six-foot-one senior  who enters her final season as a Lady Redskin after putting up a team leading 18.9 points, 5.5. rebounds per game in the stat sheet last season.

Joining her as the core of six starters will be seniors Adelynne Strecker (7.1 ppg), Havana Olander (10.2 ppg), and Evie Look (9.6 ppg) along with juniors Saelyn Raleigh (7.6 ppg), and Avery Lafferty (7.9 ppg). Strecker led the team in both assists and steals, averaging 4.0 in both a year ago.

First off the bench a year ago were senior Lucy Wright and sophomore Macy Schubert.

In finishing his pre-season reflections, coach Rolfs noted, “Success will come by working hard day in and day out, plus we need to stay focused and play disciplined basketball.”

The Lady Redskins were to open their 2025/26 season on the road at Chase County on Tuesday, December 2 before playing in the Goessel Bluebird Pre-Season Classic the week of December 8-13. At the tournament Little River is scheduled to play Hutchinson Central Christian and Elyria Christian in their first two of three games.
