LITTLE RIVER OUSTED BY CENTRAL PLAINS

            LITTLE RIVER – The Little  River football season came to an end on Friday in the 8-Man Division I quarterfinals when Central Plains came to town and defeated the Redskins by six at 32-38.

 

            Senior Logan Renken completed just two of nine passes good for 57 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Kyler Bergkamp was the lone receiver with two catches that covered 57 years and the score.

 

            Running the ball, Renken led the team on the ground with 67 yards on 11 carries while crossing the goal line three times. Sophomore Jaren Garrison also toted the ball 11 yards, good for 44 yards.

 

            On defense, the Redskins were led by Jhet Ewertt, just a sophomore, who totaled 15 tackles in the game of which 11 were solo stops. Three Little River teammates recorded 11 stops including Ruxton Birdsong, Jaren Garrison, and Kal-el Robinson with Birdson making eight solo stops and Robinson making nine. Also reaching double digits in tackles were Jaxson Konen and Laken Wege with 10 each.

 

            With the loss the Redskins finish the season at 8-3. Among the team leaders:

 

            On the season, Logan Renken closed out his Redskin career by leading the team in passing with 707 yards on completing 40-of-77 passes good for 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.

 

            Sophomore Jaren Garrison led the team in rushing with 889 yards on 122 carries with 12 going for touchdowns. Renken ran for another 844 yards on 129 totes with 21 earning touchdowns. Senior Kyler Bergkamp reached an even 200 yards rushing on 26 carries with four scores.

 

            Bergkamp was the favorite receiver with 16 receptions good for 279 yards and seven touchdowns while sophomore Logan Schubert caught a dozen passes for 204 yards and four scores and Ty Janette had 10 receptions for 189 yards and four scores.

 

            Renken also led the team in all-purpose yards with 1022 while Garrison had 968 totals 968. Logan Schubert had 668 all-purpose yards with 304 coming from punt and kickoff returns.

 

            When on defense, Jhett Ewertt, just a sophomore, led the team in tackles with 96 while Kyler Bergkamp had 77. Jaren Garrison recorded 63 with juniors Jaxson Konen and Kal-el Robinson having 52 and 45, respectively.

 

The team was on the young side for 2024 with just six seniors listed on the roster, those being Logan Renken, Kyler Bergkamp, Ruxton Birdsong, Hunter Sneath, Hayden Eck, and Noah Carmichael.
