LITTLE RIVER DEFEATS LYNDON, 52-20

The Little River football team is moving on in the 8-man, division I state playoffs after defeating Lyndon 52-20 on Friday.

 

          Now 9-1 for the season, the Redskins will  play host to Sylvan/Lucas next Friday for a chance to be among the final eight of the state playoffs. Sylvan/Lucas is also 9-1 in the season after beating Rosalia/Flint hills 62-14 on Friday.

 

          The game started out with both Little River and Lyndon trading touchdowns as Little River took an early 30-12 lead on three scoring runs by Jaxson Konen and one by Jaren Garrison.

 

          After neither team scored in the second quarter, Lyndon pulled within 10 points with a score in the third quarter before Konen ran for another score to give the Redskins a commanding 38-20 lead heading into the final quarter of play.

 

In the fourth quarter, Little River put the game away with a scoring pass from Konen to Ty Janette and a scoring run by Jhet Ewertt.

 

Little River ran 57 offensive plays and racked up 380 yards with 340 coming from  the ground game while recording 22 first downs and converting five-of-seven third down attempts. What kept Lyndon in the game was the flags being thrown at Little River as they were penalized nine times for a total of minus-97 yards.

 

While Konen only completed two-of-three for 24 yards, he did run the ball 20 times for 193 yards. Jaren Garrison chipped in with 76 yards on 15 carries.

 

On defense, the Redskins gave up 299 yards on 55 Lyndon snaps that included 195 yards rushing. They held Lyndon to just five-of-eleven on third down plays. Jhet Ewertt led the Redskin defense with 11 tackles of which seven were solo stops. Garrison had 10 tackles with seven solo stops and Kelby Rice tacked on nine tackles of which seven were solo stops and a pair were for a loss of yardage.
