Beat Canton/Galva, Lose to Elyria Christian

LITTLE RIVER – It was an all-area week for Little River as they hosted Canton/Galva on Tuesday and traveled to Elyria to battle powerhouse Elyria Christian on Friday, finishing out with a win and loss.

On Tuesday, the Redskins played host to Canton/Galva and scored a 45-31 win.

Little River jumped out to an early 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, then held a 10-point, 30-20 advantage at the halftime break before finishing out the final 12-point victory.

Logan Renken connected on four three-pointers in scoring a game high 19 points while Andrew Smith and Jaxon Konen complimented him with 10 and nine points, respectively.

Friday, Little River traveled to Elyria Christian, the number-two ranked team in Class 1A Division II and they proved to be just what they advertised, a powerhouse as the Eagles defeated the Redskins by 26, 51-77.

Little River stumbled out of the opening tip and only scored 15 points in the first two quarters while Elyria put 36 on the scoreboard, to give the Redskins a halftime deficit of 24 points. While the Redskins played better in the second half and stayed within a couple of points of Elyria, it was not enough to get a come-from-behind victory.

Ty Romero burned Little River for 30 points in the game while Alex Robertson hit four three-pointers to chip in with 12 in leading Elyria to the win.

For Little River, Jaxon Konen and Jaren Garrison led the scoring with 17 and 14 points while Logan Renken scored but three as he found himself saddled with foul issues. Konen connected on five three- pointers while Ty Janette led the team in rebounding with six and Andrew Smith dished out five assists.

The Elyria defense forced Little River into making 20 turnovers and the Redskins were whistled with 15 fouls.

Now 9-7 for the season, Little River has a busy week ahead as they play Spearville on Tuesday, host Rural Vista on Thursday in a weather makeup game plus tangle with Inman at home on Friday.
