OLPE – It was a shootout in the final regular season game Friday for the Little River boys as they lost 66-78 on the road at Olpe, the number two team in Class 1A Division I.

The loss drops the Redskins to 12-7 for the season as they prep to play Goessel at home in the first round of sub-state. Goessel finished their regular season 4-16 that included a pair of lopsided losses to Little River in December and January. If the Redskins can beat Goessel, they would then play the number three seed, Colony Crest on Monday, March 3.

In the game with Olpe, the Redskins fell behind 9-16 at the end of the first quarter but pulled to within four, 32-36, at the halftime break. Olpe doubled up Little River in the third quarter, 11-22, to take a commanding 15-point 43-58, advantage into the final quarter where they closed out the 12-point, 66-78, defeat of the Redskins.

“I thought our guys did a great job tonight o the road against the number two team in the state,” noted Redskin head coach Erik Base. “Offensive rebounds and turnovers hurt us though we felt as if we did a lot of really good things that kept us in the game. Very proud of these guys and excited to start the postseason.”

Jaren Garrison had a team high 22 points after hitting three three-pointers while Logan Renken connected on six three-pointers in scoring 21. Jaxson Konen also reached double digits with 10.
