LITTLE RIVER POWERS PAST CENTRE FOR  2 WINS

            CENTRE – The Little River boys’ and girls’ basketball teams went on the road Friday to Centre where both teams scored commanding victories with the Redskin boys winning 72-36 and the Lady Redskins getting a 69-8 victory.

 

            With the wins, the Little River  boys now stand 11-5 for the season while the Lady Redskins are still unbeaten at 15-0 and ranked number one in Class 1A Division I. Both teams will go on the road Tuesday to Canton/Galva before returning home to tangle with Elyria Christian on Friday.

            In the Lady Redskins game, they powered out to a 21-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and then shutout Centre in the second quarter while going into the halftime break with a whopping 45-point, 47-2, advantage. After scoring another 20 points in the third quarter, Little River let up on the offense and closed out the final 61-point, 69-8 victory.

 

            The rebounding and defense were key as the Lady Redskins outrebounded Centre 37-22 and forced Centre into making 26 turnovers.

           

            Arika Feldman led Little River in scoring with 21 points while both Saelyn Raleigh and Havana Olander each scored 12 and  Lucy Wright and Adelynne Strecker both chipped in with 10 each. Olander scored a double-double with her game leading 10 rebounds while Wright pulled down six and Feldman had five. Raleigh dished out six assists to direct eh offense.

            For the Little River boys, they ran out to a 23-point, 30-7 lead by the end of the first quartet before Centre chipped away and brought the lead to just 16, 44-28, at the halftime break. After outscoring Centre 20-5 in the third quarter, the Redskins cruised in for  the final 36-point, 72-36 win.

 

            On offense the Redskins dished out 19 assists while making 18 steals on defense.

           

            Blayne Baldetti had a big night, leading the team in scoring with 16 points while both Jaren Garrison and Logan Renken joined him in double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Jaxson Konen just missed making it four in double digits with nine, while leading the team in rebounds with seven and assists with five.
