MOUNDRIDGE – On Tuesday, the Moundridge softball team hosted Hutchinson Trinity and played a clean sweep of the doubleheader in winning game one 9-8 and game two 17-2.

In game one, the Lady Wildcats  fell behind 3-1 at the end of the first inning before Sam Strausz ripped a hit over the center field fence for a four-run, grand slam, home run to put Moundridge back on top at 6-4. The Lady Wildcats added three runs in the fifth and then held off Hutchinson Trinity in the seventh to get the victory.

The Lady Wildcats won the game with just six hits while Lela Winsor returned to the mound and threw 125 pitches, striking out nine to get the victory.

“Sam Strausz got us going with her second inning grand slam home run to dead center,” explained Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “Lela Winsor was back on the mound and did a nice job netting nine strikeouts as the team played well enough to hold for the win.”

Game two went quickly as the Lady Wildcats spotted Trinity two runs in the top of the first and then scored three in the bottom of the first and another four in the second to take a commanding 7-2 lead. After pouring across nine runs in the fourth, Moundridge run ruled Trinity for the win.

The Laddy Wildcats pounded out nine hits and scored in the win as Mac Soden, Macy Kaminkow, and Lela Winsor each had a pair of hits with Soden and Winsor each hammering out a double.

Winsor earned the win on the mound as she  needed just  52 pitches to put away Trinity.

Coach Eichelberger concluded his post-game reflections by noting, “Winsor again pitched and gave up just one earned run. Defensively we played well, only allowing the one error and made all the routine plays.”

The Lady Wildcats are now  8-6 for the season, they go on the road Friday to play at Ell-Saline.
