LITTLE RIVER – On Friday, the Moundridge softball trip made the short trip to Little River and came home with a decisive pair of wins in sweeping the doubleheader with wins of 22-8 and 18-11.
After trailing 5-2 at the end of the first inning and 7-4 after three, the Lady Wildcats put three runs across in the fourth, six in the fifth, four in the sixth and five in the seventh to get the decisive 22-8 first game victory.
Macie Woltje, the team’s only senior, smacked out four hits that included a triple and home run to lead the Lady Wildcat bats, with Sam Strausz and Mac Soden getting four and five runs batted in, respectively. Macy Kaminkow scored five times and Izzy Durst scored four runs.
Lela Wiinsor was on the mound and struck out four.
In the second game, Moundridge put eight runs on the board in the third inning and added three more in the fifth and five in the sixth to get the 18-11 victory and doubleheader sweep over Little River.
The Lady Wildcats dinged the Lady Redskin pitching for 14 hits with Mac Soden having three while Macy Kaminkow, Sam Strausz, Kinslie Koller, Lela Winsor, and Lakyn Allenbach each had a pair. Kaminkow scored four times and Strausz had three runs batted in with her ninth home run of the season.
Winsor needed 122 pitches to get the win.
Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger reflected on the doubleheader sweep by saying, “For most of the day, we played well on defense though we had a few hiccups that extended the games. Lela Winsor had eight strikeouts for the two games, which set the school season record with 107 for the season. Sam Strausz set a school record for home runs with six and extended her school record for triples to nine. Multiple players had multiple game hits today and no coach will complain about scoring forty runs in two games.”
