Strausz Goes 6-for-8 with HR, Triple & 2 Doubles

MOUNDRIDGE – On Friday, the Moundridge softball team hosted another county school in Canton/Galva and the two teams split a doubleheader  as Moundridge won game one 6-5 before losing in game two, 10-14.

In game one, the Lady Wildcats led 3-0 after two innings before falling behind 3-5 after four, before scoring one run in each of the final three innings to get the win on a run scored by Sam Strausz in the bottom of the seventh.

Stausz let the Lady Wildcats by going 2-for-3 with a home run in the fifth inning. Macy Kaminkow, Mac Soden,  and Izzy Durst also had a pair of hits with Mac Soden pounding out a double.

On the mound  for the first time in her Moundridge career, Addy Patrick used 107 pitches to get the win.

“With our  normal pitcher unavailable, Addy Patrick started for the first time and did a tremendous job,” noted Lady Wildcat head coach Lynn Eichelberger. “She kept the Canton/Galva hitters off-balance the entire game. I was especially pleased with the play of Izzy Durst as we moved her from ninth in the batting lineup to second, due to Lela Winsor’s absence. Defensively we played well and turned our first six-four-to-three double play of the season.”

In game two, Moundridge fell behind early, down 5-7 after just two innings and only trailed by one at 7-9 after four innings before the Lady Eagles erupted for five runs in the fifth inning in earning the final 10-14 win over the Lady Wildcats.

Strausz again led the Lady Wildcat bats, going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles plus a triple while accounting for four runs batted in, giving her stats for the two games of 6-for-8 with five runs batted in, four runs scored, a walk, two doubles, a triple and a home run.

Also contributing to the Moundridge’s 10 hits were Macie Woltje with three hits, including a double,  and Mac Soden with two.

Addy Patrick worked the mound again for the Lady Wildcats. Patrick threw 117 pitches.

Coach Eichelberger concluded his second game and doubleheader reflections by adding, “(Addy) Patrick started her second game and pitched well enough to win. We had a couple of untimely errors that cost us some runs. (Macy) Kaminkow filled in at catcher and did a nice job as it was her first time catching at the varsity level. Strausz continued to crush the ball. Macie Woltje returned to the lineup after dealing with an injury and had three hits. Maddie Doherty, our number nine hitter was on base all four times with either a walk or being hit by a pitch.”
