MOUNDRIDGE – In defense of their reigning Class 2A championship trophy, the Moundridge girls’ basketball program got the 2025/26 season underway with three commanding wins over Haven, Garden Plain and Elyria Christian on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
The Lady Wildcats got their season rolling on Tuesday with a 31-point, 56-24 win over Haven as the team recorded five three-pointers, 30 rebounds and 12 assists.
After jumping out to a 12-point, 19-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, Moundridge extended the advantage to 22 at 33-11 by the halftime break before cruising in for the final 56-25 victory.
Led by Cammi Unruh with 20 points, Macy Kaminkow and Mackie Conkling also reached double digits with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Aspyn Stos may not have scored, but she did the work in the paint by pulling down 10 rebounds while Kaminkow grabbed eight.
On Thursday, the Lady Wildcats nearly repeated the exact numbers of the first game with a 22-point, 51-29 victory over Garden Plain.
After jumping out to an eight-point 14-6 first quarter lead, Garden Plain put up 15 in the second quarter and cut the halftime lead to just four at 25-21 in favor Moundridge before Moundridge outscored Garden Plain 26-8 in the final two quarters to reach the 51-29 win.
Only Cammi Unruh and Mackie Conkling reached double digits in scoring with each scoring 13 while Hattie Hecox came close with nine. The Hecox twins, Halle and Hattie along with Macy Kaminkow dominated the paint with each grabbing six rebounds.
Closing out the strong first week of the season the Lady Wildcats dismantled a young but energetic Elyria Christian team with a 44-point, 54-10 win.
After taking an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, Moundridge poured 25 points into the scorebook while shutting out Elyria Christian in the second quarter to take a commanding 32-point, 36-4 advantage into the halftime break before getting the final 54-10 victory.
Hattie Hecox and Cammi Unruh led the scorers for the Lady Wildcats with 14 and 13 points, while Kaminkow grabbed seven rebounds and Hattie Hecox dished out five assists.
Next up for Moundridge will be hosting their own tournament the week of December 9-12 with the Lady Wildcats battling Lyons on Tuesday, competing with Hillsboro on Thursday and then finishing out the week with a county rivalry match with Inman on Friday.
