MOUNDRIDGE – With no seniors graduating, it appears the Moundridge girls’ basketball program has the makings to earn a second straight Class 2A championship come March after going 24-2 and earning the state title a year ago.

Coach Kaleigh Huxman begins her fifth season as the leader of the Lady Wildcat program and to this point has secured 65 wins to just 27 losses. In 2024/25 they beat nearly everybody in their way, they even went unbeaten as champions of the Heart of America League.

While no seniors graduated, the 2025/26 team will be led by seniors Cammi Unruh and Macy Kaminkow, both of whom have played key roles and started since their sophomore seasons.

Unruh, a five-foot-nine point guard,  is the director of the offense and the team, leading the team in points (16.4) and steals (3.3) per game a year ago while making first team both All-State Class 2A and Heart of America. Unruh is working on 1,000 points in her career as she enters the new season with 918.

Kaminkow, a six-foot-one forward, is the force in the paint for the Lady Wildcats. Kaminkow led the team in rebounds with 6.4 per game last season to go with 7.0 points and 1.7 steals while being honored as first team Heart of America and second team All-Class 2A. Kaminkow has secured 433 rebounds so far in her first three seasons.

The other three returning starters include senior and three-year starter, Addysen Patrick , a five-foot-six guard who averaged 7.8 points and 1.6 rebounds per game last season while making second team Heart of America, and the Hecox twins, Hattie and Halle.  Still just juniors, a five-foot-eleven forward, Hattie made second-team all-league while putting 8.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the books per game and Halle, a five-foot-nine guard averaged 4.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game a year ago.

Then you have the other five Lady Wildcats who could or would start on most teams but raise the bar as reserves, they include five-foot-ten sophomore Mackie Conkling who averaged 7.1 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while earning honorable mention all-league despite not being a starter. The other four are juniors Aspyn Stos, a five-foot-ten center and Izzy Durst, a five-foot-six guard plus sophomores Ashtyn Patrick, a five-foot-six point guard and Harper Rierson, a five-foot-nine forward.

In reflecting on the upcoming season, coach Huxman noted, “We are really looking forward to getting back on the court together. This group of girls work hard, want to improve every day, and have a ton of fun in doing it. They will not be satisfied with the result of last season, but be hungry to have an experience like that again.”

The Lady Wildcats opened their 2025/26 season on Tuesday evening with a 56-25 road win over Haven and will be on the road again on Thursday at Garden Plain before making their season home debut on Friday hosting Elyria Christian.
