LADY WILDCATS, LADY TEUTONS SPLIT PAIR

Moundridge wins 2-1, Inman wins 9-8

MOUNDRIDGE – Both the Moundridge and Inman softball teams got their 2024 season started with a cross-county rivalry matchup which say a split of a doubleheader with Moundridge winning game one and Inman taking a victory in game two.

 

Next up for the Lady Wildcats will be on Friday, April 5 when they  go on the road to Remington.

 

For the Lady Teutons, they play again Tuesday, April 2 at Hutchinson Trinity.

 

Here is a summary of the two games:

 

MOUNDRIDGE LADY WILDCAT SOFTBALL hosting Inman

GAME 1>

 

In game one, the Lady Teutons took a lead of 1-0 in the third on a Marlee Ballard double which scored Ellie Thimmesch. The Lady Teutons then  held on until the end when the Lady Wildcats nipped them 2-1 with a pair of runs in the sixth off an Inman error and a Macie Woltje single.

 

Both teams got strong pitching as Lela Winsor threw for Moundridge and Lyla Levin had the mound for Inman. Levin surrendered just five hits and a pair of runs, neither of them earned while striking out 12 and walking none. For the Lady Wildcats, Winsor had similar success, giving up only four hits and one run while walking a pair and striking out seven.

 

For the Lady Teutons, nobody had more than a single hit and Ballard had the only run batted in.

 

It was much the same for the Lady Wildcats as their five hits came from five different batters and Macie Woltje had their lone run batted in.

GAME 2 >

 

In game two, the Lady Teutons jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first, then pushed it to 6-2 after two innings before the Lady Wildcats pulled within one at 7-6 after five innings of play. Inman  added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and then held off Moundridge in  the bottom of the inning to earn the final 9-8 win.

 

Olivia Bradley, Taylor Froese, and Lyla Levin each had a pair of hits to lead the Lady Teutons. Levin recorded three runs batted in while Froese scored three times.

 

Sam Strausz, Macy Kaminkow and Addy Patrick each had a pair of hits for the Lady Wildcats with Strausz and Mac Soden each getting credit for a pair of runs batted in.

 

SCORING > Lady Wildcats > 2-0-1-0-3-0-2 = 8-9-2; Inman > 4-2-0-0-1-0-2 = 9-8-4.
