Defeats Chaparral, Belle Plaine – 5 Wins in a Row!!

SEDGWICK – The Moundridge girls jumped into the Steve Shepherd Girls Basketball Tournament hosted by Sedgwick on Monday and Tuesday and scored a pair of decisive wins over Chaparral, 56-30, and Belle Plaine, 71-29.
With the pair of wins, Moundridge moved their season mark to 8-2 as they have now won five games in a row. The Lady Wildcats will close out the tournament on Saturday with an opponent yet to be determined.
On Monday, the Lady Wildcats began the tournament by taking a commanding 20-5 lead at the end of the first quarter against Chaparral and then holding a 26-point, 40-16, advantage at the halftime break. After pushing the lead to 30 points at the end of the third quarter, Moundridge settled in for the final 26-point victory.
Hattie Hecox led a balanced scoring attack for Moundridge as she scored 13 points while Addy Patrick chipped in with 12 and Macy Kaminkow scored 11 with Cammi Unruh getting 10. Patrick connected on four three-pointers and Hattie Hecox had three as the team made 10 overall in the game.
Kaminkow nearly had a double double as she had a game high nine rebounds with Aspyn Stos grabbing six.
Tuesday evening, the Lady Wildcats dominated Belle Plaine with their 71-29 win, beginning with a 16-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and after scoring 23 points in the second quarter held a halftime lead of 39-16.
Coming out of the break, the Lady Wildcats put another 23 points on the board to put the game out of reach at 62-24 before finishing out the 42-point victory.
Cammi Unruh had a huge game, scoring a game high 20 points and just missing a double double with a game high nine rebounds to go with four steals, and a pair of blocked shots.
Addy Patrick put 16 points in the scorebook after getting another three three-pointers, while both Hallie Hecox and Macy Kaminkow each scored 10. The Lady Wildcats made nine three pointers and grabbed 31 rebounds with Kaminkow also coming close to a double double by pulling down eight rebounds herself. Kaelyn Wedel led the team in steals with five.
