LADY WILDCAT SPIKERS GO 3-2 AT GOESSEL INVITE

GOESSEL – On Saturday, the Moundridge volleyball team spent the day playing at the Goessel Invitational where they finished with a 3-2 record and a third-place team finish.

“Being a young team, we are still going to have our ups and downs and they will make young player errors,” explained Lady Wildcat head coach Brooke Bumgarner.

The Lady Wildcats began the day with a dominating straight set win, 25-12 and 25-18, over Fairfield. Not a single player dominated either matches for Moundridge as the team made 12 digs where five had one each and they were led by Addysen Patrick with five. Kaelyn Wedel hammered out five service aces and both Hallie Hecox and Cammi Unruh dished out four assists.

The second match of the day against Central Christian goes down as a straight set win for Moundridge though both sets were won by a three-point margin at 25-22 and 25-22.

Against Central Christian, Cammi Unruh led the team by dishing out eight assists, making 13 digs and recording nine kills. Hattie Hecox also reached double digits in digs with 10 as the Lady Wildcats made a total of 52 digs total. Hallie Hecox helped the offense by making seven assists.

Going up against host Goessel, the Lady Wildcats lost the first set by two at 23-25 before being humbled with a 9-25 loss in the second set.

Hattie Hecox led the team in the straight set loss with 12 digs.

It was a struggle in the Invitational semi-finals with Sedgwick as Moundridge again lost in straight sets, losing 15-25 and 13-25.

The Lady Wildcats pulled it back together in the consolation final as they earned a third-place trophy by taking down Canton/Galva in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-22. Hallie Hecox dished out nine assists, Hattie Hecox made five kills and Cammi Unruh led the team in both service aces with five and digs with 14.

Coach Bumgarner concluded her post invitational reflections by noting, “We need to work on consistency while still staying aggressive. We fought hard and our bench players stepped in when needed. I am proud of our team for finishing with a win and a plaque.”

Overall, for the five matches, Cammi Unruh led the team in digs with 38 and kills with 26 while also dishing out 24 assists and making eight service aces. Hallie Hecox led the offense overall with 30 assists while also getting 19 digs.

Hattie Hecox dug out 34 digs and made 15 kills, Addysen Patrick scored 25 digs and Kaelyn Wedel made 29 digs, had 14 kills and topped the team in service aces with 10.
