LINDSBORG – A late quarter surge by the visitors cost the Smoky Valley girls on Tuesday as they lost a 34-46 game to Hesston at home.
After trailing 4-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Vikings pulled even with a 19-19 tie heading into the halftime break and took a one-point, 29-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Hesston then outscored Smoky Valley 12-5 to earn the win.
Stats show how even the gam was as Smoky Valley held a 35-32 lead in rebounds, both teams had nine steals and three blocked shots while Hesston turned the ball over one more time than the Lady Vikings did.
Adrian Hazelwood led the Lady Viking scorers with 16 points while nearly getting a double-double by pulling down eight rebounds.
Now 2-2 for the season, the Lady Vikings close out their pre-Christmas schedule on Friday at Halstead.
