CONCORDIA – The Smoky Valley girls picked up a win on Friday as they beat Concordia by six, 46-40.

With both teams tied at 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, Concordia took a four-point, 16-20 advantage over the Lady Vikings into the halftime break.

The Lady Vikings came out hot in the third quarter, scoring 19 points while holding Concordia to just six, giving them a nine-point lead heading into the final eight minutes of play where they hung on for the final six-point victory.

Concordia won the battle in the paint, out rebounding the Lady Vikings 24-33 though the Smoky Valley defense forced Concordia into committing 28 turnovers.

Adrian Hazelwood led the scoring attack with 20 points. Katja Blanchat grabbed nine rebounds and Breanne Peters swiped four steals to lead in the team.

Now 2-1 for the season, Smoky Valley will play host to Hesston on Tuesday and travel to Halstead on Friday before taking their Christmas break.
