LADY VIKING WRESTLERS QUALIFY 4 FOR STATE

MCPHERSON – At the Kansas Class 4-3-2-1A Girls Regional Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, the Smoky Valley Lady Vikings took second as a team among 31 teams while crowning a pair of regional champions and  sending five to the upcoming state tournament.

 

Keira Mullen, who is listed as the top wrestler at 135, proved her worth as she breezed through the competition to win her division after going 5-0. Kate Griffin at 170, did the same, went 5-0 and won herself a regional championship as well.

 

The  other three Lady Vikings qualifying for state include Kasyn French at 140 where she finished 3-1 on the day and placed second, Kenzlie Crain at 120 went 4-1 and placed third while Roxanna Riedel, wrestling at 110, place fourth after finishing 3-2 for the tournament.

 

As a team, Smoky Valley finished second with 119.5 points, well behind regional team champion Pratt who rolled up 173.0 points. Rounding out the top five was El Dorado at third with 98.0, Abilene came in fourth with 91.0 and regional host McPherson finished fifth with 88.0 points. A total of 31 teams had wrestlers competing in the regional tournament.

 

The Lady Vikings now prep for the Class 4-3-2-1A State Tournament to be held at the Salina Tony’s Pizza Event Center on Thursday,  Friday, and Saturday, February 22-24.
