Now 29-11, Seed #5 at State

HALSTEAD – The Smoky Valley volleyball set a new school record Saturday by qualifying for the state Class 3A state tournament with a sub-state championship for the fourth season in a row.

Now 29-11, the Lady Vikings will travel to Hutchinson Friday and Saturday, October 27-28 for the Class 3A State Tournament where they will be seeded number five.

Smoky Valley will be in Pool 1 with top seed Beloit, Olathe Heritage Christian, and Goodland while Pool 2 will include Neodesha, Cheney, Silver Lake and Riverton.

The Lady Vikings began the substate run by taking down Lyons in straight sets (25-10/25-13) as Katja Blanchat had 11 kills, Adrian Hazelwood punched out 18 assists and both Breanne Peters and Blanchat had eight digs.

Against Southeast of Saline in match number two, Smoky Valley won again in straight sets, winning 25-13 and 25-21. Hazelwood passed out another 17 assists and Blanchat made 10 kills with Hope Duncan pounding out eight digs.

Smoky Valley then completed the straight set, three match sweep of substate by beating host Halstead 25-11 and 25-19. Hazelwood had another 15 assists, Blanchat made eight more kills and Duncan put 10 more digs in her stat line.
