          GOESSEL – The Little River girls basketball team continues to look like they are on a mission as they plowed through the three games of competition last week to win the trophy as champions of the annual Goessel Bluebird Classic Tournament.

         

          The Lady Redskins made quick work of both Hutchinson Central Christian, 59-17, on Monday  and Elyria Christian, 70-6, on Friday, before dominating Linn, 58-29, in the title game on Saturday.

 

          Arika Feldman led the team in scoring in two of the three games while being the holding force in the paint along with Havana Olander and Avery Lafferty in all three games.

 

          Little River will close out the pre-Christmas break schedule this week with games with a road trip to Class 2A defending state champion Moundridge on Tuesday and then hosting Wakefield on Friday.

 

          Here is the summary of all three games:

 

MONDAY, DEC. 8 – vs. Hutchinson Central Christian at Goessel Bluebird Classic

          On Monday, the Little River girls dismantled Hutchinson Central Christian while earning a 42-point, 59-17 win.

         

The Lady Redskins shutout the Lady Cougars 16-0 in the first quarter and held a commanding 31-point, 37-6, advantage as the teams broke for halftime.

         

After pushing the lead to 40 at 53-13 by the end of the third quarter, Little River closed it out in the fourth for the final 42-point victory.

         

Little River dominated the stat sheet, outrebounding Central Christian 36-15 while outscoring the Lady Cougars 27-5 off a turnover and 18-2 when the Lady Redskins had a second chance to make points.

         

Evie Look led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 19 with Arika Feldman scoring 12 and Havana Olander chipping in with 10.

         

Eight Lady Redskins recorded a rebound with Avery Lafferty and Adelynne Strecker grabbing eight and seven, respectively to lead the team.

SCORING = Lady Redskins won 59-17.

FRIDAY, DEC. 12 – vs. Elyria Christian at Goessel Bluebird Classic

          It was no contest from the opening tip as the Lady Redskins thumped a young Elyria Christian team 70-6.

         

Racing out to a 24-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Redskins did not let up by pushing the advantage to 40-2 at the halftime break and 58-5 at the end of three quarters before cruising in for the final 64-point victory.

         

          Little River dominated the paint and undersized opponents by outscoring the Lady Eagles 36-1 from turnovers, 15-1 on second chance points and 40-2 inside the paint.

 

          Arika Feldman led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 23 while Havana Olander hit for 15 and Adelynne Strecker put 10 in the scorebook. 

 

SCORING = Little River won 70-6

SATURDAY, DEC. 13 – vs. Linn at Goessel Bluebird Classic

          In the closest game of the week on Saturday, the Lady Redskins scored a 29-point, 58-29 win over Linn to claim the Bluebird Classic championship title.

 

          Lead by just three, 11-8, at the end of the first quarter, Little River held a four-point, 23-19 advantage going into the halftime break. Linn still stayed within eight at 35-27 by the end of the third quarter before the Lady Redskins poured 23 points in the scorebook in the final quarter to earn the final 58-29 victory.

 

          The Little River defense forced Linn into making 28 turnovers  while hitting 19-of-32 free throws. The Lady Redskins won the battle under the basket, outrebounding Linn 37-26 and outscoring them 26-10.

 

          Arika Feldman led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 28 points while Avery Lafferty and Havana Olander came close to double digits with nine and eight. Olander just missed a double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds.

 

SCORING: Lady Redskins won 58-29
