Romero / Doile lead McPherson

MCPHERSON – On Saturday, the McPherson volleyball team hosted an eight-team Invitational where they placed second, losing out to Wichita Bishop Carroll.

Now 20-7 for the season, the Lady Bullpup Spikers have a busy week ahead with a triangular on Tuesday, October 10 with Buhler and Mulvane before closing out on Saturday, October 14 when they travel to an eight-team invitational in Garnett hosted by Anderson County High School.

On Saturday, the Lady Bullpups won straight set wins over Wichita Heights (25-12/25-5) and Salina South (25-9/25-22) before closing out pool play with another straight set win over Garden City (25-23/25-14).

In the Invitational Semi-Finals, McPherson put away Nickerson in straight sets 25-19 and 25-17 before losing to perennial power Wichita Bishop Carroll in the championship match (21-25/18-25) to place second in their own invitational.

For most of the invitational the Lady Bullpups were led by the Romero sisters and Brooke Doile. Alex Romero directed the McPherson attacks by dishing out 94 assists while sister Ava Romero led the team in blocks with five and kills with 27. Brooke Doile led everyone in digs with 48 and service aces with ten.

Lady Bullpups lost 0-2: 21-25 / 18-25, finish 2nd.
