TOWANDA – At a triangular with Circle and Buhler on Tuesday, the McPherson volleyball team made a clean sweep with none of the four sets played won by more than four points.

Against host Circle, McPherson opened things up with a three-point, 25-22 win before holding on for a four-point, 25-21 win in set two to score the 2-0 win.

The nightcap with Buhler was nearly the same as the Lady Bullpups won a two-point, 25-23 victory in the first set and followed that up with a four-point, 25-21 win in set two to make a clean sweep for the day.

“One of the things we took away from the weekend was that we needed to spend a little extra time on understanding blocking assignments, alignment and form,” pointed out Lady Bullpup head coach Christy Doile. “We took time to do just that at practice on Monday and the extra work paid off. On Tuesday, our blocking errors went down, positive touches and blocks went up, which was super helpful. We changed up some defensive assignments as well based on the first time we played Circle, and our girls executed the game plan.”

While Alex Romero directed it all and dished out 41 assists between the two matches, Brooke Doile led the Lady Bullpups in both digs with 16 and kills with 16.

Coach Doile concluded her post match reflections by adding, “It was a great team effort, outstanding hustle, the will to win and for us to finish in two sets was a great accomplishment. Circle is ranked number two in the state. Coming off a tough weekend, this was the response every coach and team wants to have. W gathered ourselves after an emotional win and battled to beat Buhler who put up a good fight.”

Now 15-5 on the season, the Lady Bullpups return to the competitive court on Tuesday, October 3 at Clearwater where they will battle both Clearwater and Rose Hill.
