3 Straight Set Wins, Make Semi-Finals

HUTCHINSON – It was a good opening day for the McPherson volleyball team on Friday at the Class 4A State Tournament as they scored three straight set victories in pool play to put them in the state semi-finals on Saturday.

The Lady Bullpups, the number three seed overall, were the only team that came through pool play unbeaten as both the top two seeds, Circle and Clearwater did not make it out of pool play.

McPherson is now 32-9 on the season and will take battle with Andale, the number five seed overall and now 29-11 with the winner to take on either Bishop Miege (the overall eight seed – 21-18) or Louisburg (the sixth seed – 25-16).

Louisburg was the Lady Bullpups first victim, winning in straight sets 25-22, 25-18. The Lady Bullpups followed that up with a straight set win over Holton, the number seven seed, (25-20/25-15).

Taking on second seed Circle in the final match of pool play, McPherson scored yet another straight set win, winning 25-19 and 25-17.

On the first day of play, the Lady Bullpups were led by Alex Romero who led the team in both assists with 67 and digs where she pounded out 37. Addison Chapman and Ava Romero each had six blocks with Ava Romero scoring 23 kills.
