CLEARWATER – The McPherson volleyball team went to Clearwater on Tuesday and returned home with a split of two matches, losing to Clearwater before beating Rose Hill in the triangular.
With the split of matches the Lady Bullpups are now sitting at 16-6 for the season as they prepare to play host to an eight-team Invitational on Saturday, October 7. Among the teams participating will be Wichita Bishop Carroll (15-5), Garden Plain (14-7), Garden City (17-7), Nickerson (15-13), Wichita Heights (9-15), Goddard (2-21), and Salina South (9-18).
As for the matches on Tuesday, against host Clearwater, McPherson went three long, close, hard-fought sets before losing (25-27 / 25-17 / 24-26) where two of the three sets were decided by just two points each.
In the second match with Rose Hill, the lady Bullpups won in straight sets (25-23 / 25-21) though neither win was by more than four points.
For the pair of matches, Alex Romero ran the offensive attack for the Lady Bullpups and dished out 49 assists while sister Ava Romero led the team in blocks with four. Jaela Thompson topped the team in kills with 16 and Brooke Doile punched out 18 digs while Addison Chapman scored five service aces.
