SALINA – It was another solid day on the golf course for the McPherson High girls golf team on Tuesday as they traveled to Salina for the 10-team Salina Central Invitational and finished second in the team standings while breaking a new course record as a team.

By shooting a 356 in Salina, the Lady Bullpups shattered the previous best mark of 377 set last year in their inaugural season. The 356 also placed McPherson in second place for the team standings among ten teams and 57 golfers competing.

For of the six varsity golfers set new personal best marks on the course Tuesday, including Brodie Kuhn who by shooting a 79 finished third overall, another top five finish on the early season for her.

Reese Elliot also placed in the top-ten with a new personal best 89. Both Macy Rinker and Olivia Cheatham also set new personal best marks on the course, as all five varsity golfers placed in the top twenty out of 57 golfers.

“Brodie (Kuhn) led the charge with another top-five finish to start off her season,” noted Lady Bullpup head coach Treg Fawl. “She struggled at times with her ball striking today, but managed to post a solid score, I was proud of how she battled. Reese (Elliot) continues to shine as she has never broken 100 in a tournament prior to today and her 89 was an outstanding score and it shows the work she has put in. Olivia (Cheatham) also shot personal best. She also has never broken 100 in a tournament until today either. Both Macy (Rinker) and Andi (Buschbom) continue to be consistent while posting solid scores.”

The Lady Bullpup junior varsity golfers were also in action on Tuesday as they played a six-team, 33 player, nine-hole invitational at Haysville/Campus.

The Lady Bullpup junior varsity won the invitational as Hunter Wilson finished second shooting a 51 and Caitlyn Pearson placed fourth with a 52 while Addie French also made the top-ten with a 56 placing her seventh.

Coach Fawl concluded his post-meet reflections by adding, “I am extremely proud of how our team played today. The scores we are posting are starting to show the amount of work these girls put in over the past year.”

Next on the schedule for the Lady Bullpup golfers will come on Thursday, September 14 when the varsity Lady Bullpups will play host to a 12-team Invitational at Turkey Creek Golf Course, while the junior varsity golfers will be at the Wellington JV Invitational on Monday, September 11.
