JUNIOR LADY PUP TENNIS DOMINATE INVITATIONAL

Sweep Doubles, Win Pair of Singles

MCPHERSON – It was a big day on Monday for the McPherson Middle School girls tennis team as they hosted a five team invitational and dominated the event, taking first in the tam standings, winning all four of th doubles competition as well as taking first in two of the singles brackets.

The Junior Lady Pups rang up 30 team points putting them well ahead of second-place Buhler Prairie Hills with 17. Wichita Independent, Valley Center and Wichita Classical rounded out the field of schools competing.

“What a great day for tennis,” exclaimed Junior Lady Pup head coach Paul Reichenberger. “All around, the girls played really well.”

In doubles all four McPherson tandems won their bracket including the duo of Lleyton Kuhn and Mayson Wiens, the tandem of Maddie Ekholm and Emily Reno, Liz Britting and Stephanie Fonseca-Gonzales plus the duo of Hayden Eveland and Nirmitha PremAnanth.

Speaking of his doubles tandems, coach Reichenberger added, “We did really well getting first-place in every division in the doubles competition. Each set of girls did a great job being aggressive and attacking volleys. We have really improved on this as th season has gone on.”

In the singles division, the Junior Lady Pups got first place finishes from Quinn Liebl and Audra Sandbo while Kamryn Prescott and Azul Palacios both placed second.

Coach Reichenberger concluded his post meet reflections by saying, “In singles, we did great getting first place in the top two divisions and second place in the other two divisions. It was great seeing our singles players rally with consistency and attack their opponents all day long. We also had a fill-in single and double teams that each took third. As coaches, we were really proud with how all our girls played today”

Next up will be a dual against Hays on Thursday before the Junior Lady Pups play in the league tournament on Tuesday, October 3.
