INMAN – It was a split of the runners for the Inman cross country team last week as a pair raced at the Marion Invitational on Thursday and three waited and ran on Saturday at the Rim Rock Farm High School Classic hosted by the University of Kansas.

On Thursday, Tyler Martisko medaled at Marion by finishing fifth in the varsity 5K run while Hunter Schrader, competing in the junior varsity race, placed twenty-fifth.

After the race, Martisko noted, “I felt very good during the race.”

It was a huge race for Lady Teutons Abigail Siemens and Addison Wedel on Saturday at the Rim Rock Classic as they ran with 315 other runners from as far away as Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri.

Running for the first meet of the season on a fast, flat course, Siemens finished 210th and Wedel ran in 275th.

After the race, Siemens pointed out, “Going to the Rim Rock meet was an exciting and memorable experience. Being surrounded by hundreds of runners to start the race was very intimidating, but the adrenaline kick prior to the race helped me push myself each mile. Likewise, being surrounded by spectators at each spot in the race kept me busy instead of thinking about how much the running hurt. I really like the course. If I can change anything about the race, it would be the hills in the last mile and half of the race.”

Wedel finished at 275th for the meet, but also had a good experience, saying, “I really like the course, because it is pretty scenery. The course itself is difficult with the terrain, but the challenge was good because it pushed me. It was cool to run with so many people. This race in particular is rough for me to run because I was coming off some days of being sick.”

Also running at the Rim Rocks Classic was Riley Roots who competed in the Boys 5K along with 402 other competitors. Finishing 38th this season meant Roots ran 22 places higher and 30 seconds faster than he did in the same race a year ago while running a season best time.

Next up for the Teuton runners will be on Thursday, October 3 at the Berean Academy Invitational.
