MCPHERSON – Not too many high schools claim to have a solid kicker, but the McPherson football team does, and they rode the leg of Blaise Hoover to earn a three-point, 17-14-win Friday at home over Winfield.

Coach Jace Pavlovich sent Hoover in with just thirty-three seconds left to play and he converted a 37-yard field goal to give the Bullpups the win.

Earlier in the game Winfield scored in the first quarter and held an early 7-0 advantage before Blaise Hoover connected with Gunner Schumacher for a 28-yard scoring play in the second quarter to tie the game at 14-14 heading into the halftime break.

Early in the third quarter Owen Fetch threw a short 12-yard pass to Blaise Hoover for a second Bullpup score, giving McPherson a 14-7 lead heading into the final quarter.

McPherson cruised forward with the advantage on the scoreboard until the 6:26 mark of the fourth quarter when Winfield intercepted an Owen Fetch pass and hustled 25 yards to the end zone to tie the game at 14-14 until the final drive where Hoover connected on the game winning field goal with just 33 ticks on the clock.

For the game, the Bullpups rolled up 336 yards in offense on 62 offensive plays with it split evenly between 171 yards passing and 165 yards rushing. The Bullpup defense held Winfield to just under 100 yards rushing at 94 on 30 carries while causing a pair of fumbles and picking off a pass.

Offensively, Owen Fetch directed the Bullpups and completed 13-of-23 passes for 143 yards and a score with Carlo German running for 78 yards on 15 carries. Both Gunner Schumaker and Blaise Hoover caught six passes with Hoover picking up 112 yards and Schumaker 63.
