Hazelwood, Blanchat Score Double-Doubles

LINDSBORG – It was a rough way to start the post-holiday schedule for the Smoky Valley girls as they kept a home game close only to lose by three points, 46-49 to Hoisington on Tuesday.

Down by three, 10-13, at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Vikings still trailed by three at 19-22 at the halftime break before pulling to within one at 33-34 at the end of the third quarter. Hoisington outscored Smoky Valley by two in the final eight minutes to get the final three-point victory.

The Lady Vikings shot just 25.8% from the field as they went 0-for-16 from beyond the three-point arc and had just three players supply all the scoring.

Both Adrian Hazelwood and Katja Blanchat put 19 points in the scorebook or 38 of the teams 46 points with Tinley Scott getting the other eight. The trio also took 51 of the teams 58 shots while the trio also took all 21 free throws, making 16.

While Smoky Valley had 46 rebounds in the game, Hazelwood and Blanchat grabbed 32 as both recorded double-doubles with Hazelwood pulling down 19 boards and Blanchat grabbing 13.

The Lady Vikings had trouble stopping Elle Crawford of Hoisington as she also recorded a double-double with a game in scoring with 29 points to go with nabbing 14 rebounds.

Now 2-4 for the season, the Lady Vikings are off for a week before returning to the competitive court next Tuesday, January 9 when they play host to Hillsboro.
