FRANKFORT PASSES EAGLES 66-28

Canton/Galva Ends 2023 at 8-2

CANTON – The passing offense of Frankfort tossed the Canton/Galva defense crazy as they scored a humbling 66-28 win over the Eagles, ending their season.


With the loss the Eagles close out the 2023 season with an 8-2 record.


As for the game with Frankfort, both teams scored in the first quarter with Lane McMannis running into the end zone from six yards out. With a pass from Leyton Witte to Wyatt Collins for a two-point conversion, the Eagles held a slim 8-6 lead.


Witte scored early in the second quarter with McMannis running for the two-point conversion giving Canton/Galva a 10-point advantage before Frankfort scored twice and made both two-point conversions to take a temporary six-point 22-16 lead. Witte sprinted 65 yards for a score to tie the game up at 22-22 going into the halftime break.


Coming out of the break, it was all Frankfort as they scored twice in the third quarter to go up by 14 at 36-22 before scoring three more times in the fourth to go up 58-22 when Witte broke loose for another long scoring run for the Eagles final score of the game and season. Frankfort put the game out of reach when they returned the ensuing kickoff for a score, giving them the final 38-point victory.


Canton/Galva rang up 384 yards in offense that included 301 on the ground while Frankfort recorded 417 yards of offense with 352 of that coming through the air.


Individually, Leyton Witte concluded his Eagle career with 195 yards on 19 carries good for three scores while Lane McMannis, also a senior, ran for 99 on 25 carries and one score. Jaden Ediger completed 12-of-24 for 83 yards though he and Witte both threw a pair of interceptions as well. McMannis led the defense with 12 tackles.


The Eagles who used up their senior year of playing time with the loss included Witte, McMannis, Ediger, Wyatt Collins, Jory Ratzlaff, Dylan Cherry and Ross Burrill.
