NEW COACH HOPES FOR WINNING SEASON

CANTON – It has been 10 years since the Canton/Galva volleyball program has scored a winning season, but with a new coach and new attitudes, the Lady Eagles look to gain more victories than losses in 2025.

After going through a couple of coaches in just a few seasons, Rylee Paramore steps in as the new head coach for the 2025 Lady Eagles, her first as a head coach. Paramore knows the team though as she was an assistant on the 2024 team that finished  9-21 overall and 4-7 in Wheat State League action. Paramore will have the assistance of Addie Foster.

“The 2024 season would be best described as a rollercoaster,” explained coach Paramore. “We had games where we played very well, and others not so much. Getting out early in the playoffs was brutal, as they went to three sets with Olpe before losing.”

Biggest task will be to replace graduate Raegan Hawkinson, a crucial middle, setter, and defensive specialist. Hawkinson led the team in blocks (45), and digs (234) while also recording 26 aces, making 106 assists and pounding out 138 kills.

“I think losing one of the power hitters on our team will be an adjustment,” noted coach Paramore. “But with a solid freshman class coming in, the competition for those open spots will be stiff.”

It will help to have a player like Trinity Espinoza, a senior outside/setter, to build the team around as she made honor mention all-league last season after leading the team in kills with 200, assists with 170 and aces with 46. Espinoza in her first three seasons has recorded some incredible numbers with 590 kills, 692 digs, 197 assists, 104 aces and 22 blocks made over 189 career sets played.

Another top returnee is the 2024 super freshman Aaliyah Skipworth, a middle and setter. Skipworth will be a crucial piece to lead the team after scoring 110 assists, 108 digs, 56 kills and 23 aces in her first season.

Junior defensive specialist/libero Londyn Dietrich along with  Jordyn Elliot and Makinlee Hoppes will provide leadership with varsity experience.

Coach Paramore finished out her reflections on the upcoming season by saying, “There are a lot of girls with experience in many positions which makes it fun as a coach to see where they would thrive the best. Overall, I think we are a more well-rounded team and have the potential to do some great things this season.’

The Lady Eagles open the 2025 season on the road at Douglas for a quad with El Dorado and Caldwell on Friday, August 29.
