WICHITA – On the road Tuesday in Wichita to play WAHAA (Wichita Homeschoolers), the Elyria Christian volleyball team dropped a three-set match, none by more than five points.
The Lady Eagles lost the first set by three, 22-25, the second set by five (20-25) and then the final set by three again, 22-25.
With the loss the Lady Eagles are now 18-9 for the season as they head to the Wheat State League Tournament on Saturday, October 14 in Little River.
Individually, Laney Reiff directed the attacks and dished out 16 assists while tying with Julia Allen in leading the team in digs with 19 each. Elyria punched out a whopping 93 digs in the three-set match.
Joy Pyle stepped up and topped the team with four blocks and six kills.
It did not go much better for the Lady Eagle junior varsity as they lost in straight sets, 15-25 and 16-25.
“We had a night where we just could not produce offensively,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Jayme Gardner in her post-meet reflections. “Our defense worked hard, and we had a lot of digs by our back row. We need to work on getting our connection back and be ready for a tough weekend at the league tournament on Saturday.”
