ELYRIA SPIKERS STUMBLE AT WSL TOURNEY

NOW 20-13 FOR SEASON

LITTLE RIVER – On Saturday, the Elyria Christian volleyball team went to Little River for the Wheat State League Tournament where the Lady Eagles won just one of five matches.

With the 1-4 mark on Saturday, the Lady Eagles are now sitting at 20-13 with one final regular season triangular set for Tuesday, October 17 with Hutchinson Central Christian and Wichita Central Christian Academy. Elyria will then be in the Class 1A Division II Sub-State Tournament in Lost Springs on Saturday, October 21 hosted by Centre.

Saturday started out rough by having to play powerhouse Little River who beat the Lady Eagles in straight sets (11-25, 9-25), which was followed by a match with Herington where Elyria did a bit better but still lost in straight sets (19-25, 24-26) despite Laney Reiff getting 10 assists and Macy Reiff punching out 13 digs.

The Lady Eagles rebounded in match three to gain a three-set win over Canton/Galva (26-24, 12-25, 25-19) as Julia Allen and Macy Reiff pounded out 20 and 18 digs respectively and Laney Reiff dished out 17 assists while Brooke Davidson had nine kills.

For the second time in a row, Elyria went three sets in match four, this time with Solomon with the Gorilla’s winning. Elyria pounded out 90 digs in the match with Raegan Broahhus, Julia Allen, Jory Glendening, Laney Reiff and Macy Reiff all reaching double digits. Laney Reiff also had 13 assists and Brooke Davidson recorded seven kills.

In the final match of the day, Elyria lost again in straight sets to Goessel (12-25, 17-25) with Laney Reiff leading the team in both digs with 12 and assists with five.
