ELYRIA SPIKERS GO 3-1 FOR THE WEEK

Now 10-3 on Season – Ranked 10th in Class 1A-DI!

ELYRIA – It has been another good week for the Elyria Christian volleyball team as they won three and lost just once on Tuesday and Thursday, while defending their #10 ranking in Class 1A – Division I according to MaxPreps.

On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Centre for a quad which saw them play Canton/Galva and Goessel.

The week started out a bit rough as the Lady Eagles lost to Canton/Galva in straight sets, 17-25 and 21-25. Laney Reiff dished out 10 assists, Julia Allen punched out 12 digs to lead the Elyria.

In their second match with Goessel, they lost again in set one, 13-25 before gaining a pair of wins in set two and three, 25-21 and 25-21, for the match win.

Leading the Lady Eagles against Goessel were Laney Reiff for passing out 23 assists, Julia Allen for recording 17 digs, and Brooke Davidson for making nine kills.

On Thursday, being back on their home court, the Lady Eagles thrilled the home crowd with a pair of straight set wins in a triangular over Bluestem (25-18/25-17) and Berean Academy (25-20/25-19).

“This was a fun night,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Jayme Gardner. “The girls worked hard as a team as both Bluestem and Berean Academy made us fight for each point with both of them being pretty scrappy.”

Against Bluestem, Laney Reiff dished out 13 assists while both Julia Allen and Macy Reiff punched out 10 digs each. Brooke Davidson made seven kills as well.

In the matchup with Berean Academy, the Lady Eagles recorded 57 digs led by Raegan Broadhus with 16, Julia Allen with 15 and Macy Reiff with nine. Laney Reiff handed out 13 assists and Brooke Davidson made eight kills.

Coach Gardner concluded her post match reflections by saying, “Finishing a play was hard for us a few times, something we are going to have to work on as we’ve got some big games coming up. I was really proud of our girls never giving up aa they kept pushing each other as the night went on. We need to take these wins and keep working toward our next goal.”

Now 10-3 for the season, the Lady Eagles will be on the road Tuesday, September 19 at Wakefield for a triangular with Wakefield and Solomon before returning home for a triangular on Thursday, September 21 with Canton/Galva and Burrton.
