ELYRIA – For a young team like the Elyria Christian girls, it was a good thing to finish the pre-Christmas schedule with a home court, 48-23 win over Rural Vista.

“It was great to see some things come together for our girls tonight,” explained Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “This was a great team win that had nine players make some significant contributions. This had to set a record for any team that I have coached to finish a game with only a pair of turnovers. Plus, we had 14 assists, which showed how unselfish the girls were playing tonight.”

The Lady Eagles doubled up Rural Vista in the first quarter by taking a 12-6 lead and then held continued to hold the six-point advantage at 24-18 heading into the halftime break.

Coming out of the intermission, Elyria pushed the lead out to 16 at 35-19 before cruising in for the final 25-point victory.

It was a stiff defense by the Lady Eagles that forced Rural Vista into 22 turnovers, including 15 steals while the offense was unselfish having 14 assists on 21 made shots from the field.

Both Addison Swenson and Grace Prescott led the team in scoring with each scoring 15 points while Joy Pyle also reached double digits with 10. Three Lady Eagles topped the team in rebounds with six each including Pyle, Julia Allen and Makenna Cass. Prescott hit on three three-pointers and had the quick hands on defense with a team high five steals.

Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “Addison (Swenson) had a solid night scoring and playing very sound defense. Grace (Prescott) is becoming a leader as only a sophomore plus she had five steals and joined Addison in leading our scoring with 15 points. Joy (Pyle) played her best game of the season as a lot of her scoring came from offensive rebounds and she was a bigger presence tonight defending around the basket. We still have a lot of improvements to make, but this was a great way to head into the Christmas break.”

Now 3-5 through the first three weeks of the season, the Lady Eagles will return to the competitive battles on Friday, January 5 on the road at Canton/Galva.
