ELYRIA – It was okay for a quarter before the Elyria Christian girls succumbed to the buzzsaw called Little River on Friday, taking a 19-67 home loss.

Little River is unbeaten, defending state champions and ranked number one in Class 1A Division I.

With the loss the Lady Eagles, who just made the top ten at eighth in Class 1A Division II, drops to 12-6 and snap a 10-game winning streak, after opening the season losing six of their first eight games. Next week Elyria will travel to Berean Academy on Tuesday before hosting Marion on Friday.

“It was really good for our girls to go up against such a dominant team tonight as Little River is  one of most talented teams top to bottom in the state,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “I was glad we came out aggressive in the first quarter, it showed that the girls have improved since the beginning of the season. They were not intimidated by this match up. Little River has so many athletes that keep coming at you, and they are all tremendous shooters. Their ability to move the ball so well and known down the open shots eventually wore us down.”

Elyria held their own in the first eight minutes of the game, trailing by just six, 10-16, before only scoring one point in the second quarter as Little River took control, leaving the Lady Eagles trailing 11-43 at the halftime break.

Addison Swenson and Grace Prescott both led the Lady Eagles scoring with five points each as only five players put stats in the scorebook for Elyria while 10 Little River girls scored at least a pair of points.

Coach Fields concluded his reflections on the game by saying, “Grace (Prescott) and Addison (Swenson) broke their press a lot better than the first time we played them. They both took advantage of some opportunities to score.”
