GOESSEL – In their final game of the Goessel Bluebird Classic, the Elyria Christian girls continue to improve though they still closed out with a 14-point, 26-40 loss to host Goessel.

Trailing by four, 6-10, at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles kept up with Goessel in the second quarter with each team scoring 10 to trail by four at 20-16 going into the halftime break.

Only scoring four points in the third quarter put Elyria down by 11, 20-31, heading into the fourth quarter where they closed out with the final 14-point loss.

Despite the score, the Lady Eagles did out rebound Goessel 22-20 while making 11 steals and forcing Goessel into turning the ball over 15 times.

“A lot of good things came out of this game,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “We did a better job adjusting to a press and getting through it in the second half. We could improve on rebounding still, but this was our best night of crashing the boards.”

Joy Pyle led the Lady Eagles with eight points and six rebounds while Grace Prescott chipped in with seven points and grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists and made a pair of steals.  Addison Swenson had the quick hands-on defense as she made six steals. Seven players grabbed at least a pair of rebounds in the game.

Coach Fields concluded his reflections on the game by adding, “Grace (Prescott) did a nice job handling a very good defense while running point for us. She is creating a lot of opportunities for her teammates. Joy (Pyle) is getting stronger every game. She was a lot mor aggressive tonight, and it showed in her stats.”

Still looking for their first win of the season, the Lady Eagles will play host to Sedgwick on Tuesday and travel to Solomon on Friday.
