Allen Scores 11

HUTCHINSON – On Monday, the Elyria Christian girls went on the road and stumbled a bit against Hutchinson Central Christian, losing 29-38.
Down by six, 5-11, by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Eagles were only down by five at 12-17 at the halftime break before Central Christian pulled away and won by nine.
“It is always tough to lose, but I was happy with the way the girls are getting stronger on defense,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “Julia (Allen), Grace (Prescott), and Addison (Swenson) were very disruptive and caused a lot of turnovers while doing a great job of keeping the intensity up without fouling.”
Julia Allen led the scoring with 11 while also making five steals on defense. Mackenna Cass only scored two points but led the work in the paint by grabbing seven of the team’s 12 rebounds.
The Lady Eagle defense caused 18 turnovers by Central Christian, including 11 steals. Central Christian hit on 10-of-19 two-pointers.
Coach Fields concluding his comments on the game by adding, “On offense, we really struggled to find a rhythm. I thought we started to get a little more relaxed in the second half, and we started finding some gaps. The more these girls play together, they will begin to use what the defense is giving them and be a little more flexible. Right now, they are just trying to run through our plays, but I am noticing that they are beginning to see more opportunities based on the defense. MaKenna (Cass) did a nice job on the boards tonight, that is an area that we need to improve on as a team.”
