MOUNDRIDGE – It was a somewhat of a humbling experience Friday for the youthful Elyria Christian girls basketball team as they traveled cross-county to Moundridge and lost by 43 points, 15-58.

“This was a great learning opportunity against a very well coached team,” explained Elyria head coach Greg Fields. “I was extremely proud of the effort our girls gave and the way they kept their heads up throughout the game.”

Elyria fell behind by 12, 3-15 at the end of the first quarter and were down by 27, 5-32 at the halftime break.

The Moundridge defense forced the Lady Eagles into making 24 turnovers, including 19 steals while the Elyria offense could only hit on one-of-sixteen two-point shots though they did hit four-of-nine from beyond the three-point arc.

Addie Swenson scored 14 of the teams 15 points including making all four of the team’s three-pointers. Another highlight for the Lady Eagles was the play of Grace Prescott who scored the only other point while also dishing out five assists and making five steals on defense.

Coach Fields concluded his opening game reflections by stating, “Addison (Swenson) showed that she ready to compete at a high level in the first varsity start of her career. Her only missed shot was her first attempt which was rushed. Her confidence was outstanding tonight and she provided good leadership to a relatively young and inexperienced team. Grace (Prescott) provided a lot of energy and was impactful on both defense and offense. She missed a lot of shots that we see her make consistently in practice and I have no doubt that she will have a lot of games this season where she puts up some big scoring numbers to go along with her strong defense.”
