Swenson Scores 15, Pyle Gets 10

LOST SPRINGS – At the Centra Tournament on Thursday, the Elyria Christian girls scored their third win in a row with a 46-19 win over Douglass.
The win puts the Lady Eagles at an even 5-5 for the season as they prep to play Herington on Friday in the tournament semi-finals.
Elyria shutout Douglass in the first quarter in taking an early 13-0 lead and held a commanding 20-4 advantage as the two teams hit the halftime break. After Douglass chipped a few points off the lead to just 12 at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Eagles doubled up what Douglass scored in the fourth quarter to finish out the final 17-point victory.
“This was a great team win against a very athletic Douglass team,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “Our girls were ready to get back on the court after two weeks of weather delays. I was happy with the energy we brought in the first quarter and felt like we sped them up and made it difficult for them to get into a rhythm.”
Both Addison Swenson and Joy Pyle hit double digits in the game with Swenson scoring a game high 15 while Pyle chipped in with 10. Pyle tied with Makenna Cass for a team high six rebounds.
Julia Allen did not score but was a force on the court in grabbing five rebounds, making four steals on defense, and passing out three assists.
Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “Addison (Swenson) had a great all-around game as she has been shooting very well in practice, and it was nice to see that translate over to the game. Joy (Pyle) had an outstanding first half and the way she finished around the basket made Douglass change up their defense. Both Julia (Allen) and Makenna (Cass) also did a great job of distributing the ball and playing solid defense.”
