Go 4-2 at Invitational

BURRTON – The Elyria Christian volleyball team marched into Burrton on Saturday for the Burrton Invitational and came home winning four of six matches and finishing second overall.
With the 4-2 mark for the weekend, the Lady Eagles are now 17-8 for the season as they ready themselves for a triangular on Tuesday at Peabody/Burns which will include Rural Vista.
The Lady Eagles began the day with a three-set win over Berean Academy where they lost the first set by four points before bouncing back to take set two and three. Laney Reiff dished out 22 assists, sister Macy Reiff made 23 digs and Brooke Davidson scored 16 kills to lead Elyria.
In match two of the day, Elyria overpowered Pratt/Skyline, winning in straight sets 25-13 and 25-17. Macy Reiff punched out 18 digs and seven kills to lead the Lady Eagles.
Battling Berean Academy for the second time, the Lady Eagles lost in straight sets despite Macy Reiff and Reagan Broadhus getting 11 and 10 digs during the match.
In another match with Pratt/Skyline, the Lady Eagles had to go three sets to win, taking set one 25-16 then losing the second set 23-25 before scoring a two-point 25-23 win in set three for the match victory. Laney Reiff handed out 18 assists, Macy Reiff recorded 28 digs and Brooke Davison had 11 kills.
Taking on Sterling in the Invitational’s semi-finals, Elyria won in straight sets 25-23 and 25-14.
Tangling with volleyball powerhouse Inman in the championship match, the Lady Eagles stumbled hard and lost the first set 5-25 before giving the Lady Teutons a battle in the second set before losing again, this time 16-25 to finish second for the day.
