Lady Eagles Finish 6-5 on Day

SOLOMON – On Saturday, the Elyria Christian volleyball team went to Solomon for the Solomon Invitational where they returned home with 3rd Place Trophy after winning six matches and losing five.
Opening up pool play with Flint Hills Christian, the Lady Eagles began the day with a straight set (25-10, 25-8) win as Laney Reiff dished out nine assists, Macy Reiff made five kills and Reagan Broadhus connected on five digs.
Elyria ran into a buzzsaw with Ell-Saline in their second match of the day, losing both sets (19-25, 13-25) despite efforts by Laney Reiff in handing out six assists, Julia Allen making six digs and Brooke Davidson connecting on five kills.
Bouncing back from the Ell-Saline stumble, the Lady Eagles closed out pool play with a straight set pounding (25-7, 25-12) of Wakefield. Laney Reiff continued to run the offense by dishing out another 12 assists, Reagan Broadhus made six digs while four others connected on five digs. Brooke Davidson made 11 kills and Addison Swenson scored four service aces.
In the invitational semi-finals, the Lady Eagles lost in straight sets to host Solomon. After being humbled 10-25 in the first set, Elyria forced the second set into extra serves before losing 27-29. Laney Reiff recorded five assists, Reagan Broadhus made 15 digs while both Macy Reiff and Addison Swenson each had eight.
The Lady Eagles ended the day earning a third-place trophy by taking down Rock Hills in three sets. Elyria won the first set 25-18 while Rock Hills took the second set 17-25 before the Lady Eagles finished out the game with a 25-8 hammering in the third set to get the win.
Laney Reiff finished the match with a whopping 28 assists and sister Macy Reiff forced 26 digs. In addition to Macy Reiff, Julia Allen and Addison Swenson had 17 and 10 digs, respectively. Brooke Davidson made 16 kills.
The two losses in the tournament were the first of the 2023 season for the Lady Eagles who are now 7-2 with a home dual against Centre scheduled for Tuesday, September 12.
