ELYRIA GIRLS ROLL TO WIN AT SUB-STATE

By Staff
ELYRIA – It was all Elyria Christian girls Monday in the first game of their Class 1A Division II sub-state hosting Buffalo/Altoona Midway (BAM) as the Lady Eagles rolled to a 60-18 victory.
With the victory, the Lady Eagles are now 12-8 for the season and prep for a battle on Saturday, March 1 against the top-seed of the substate, South Haven. South Haven will enter the game 17-1 and ranked number three in Class 1A Division II.

“This was a great way to start the post-season,” noted Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “We have had such a tough schedule the last couple of weeks, it was nice to build the girls confidence back up.”
Elyria flew out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and held a 31-point, 35-4, advantage when the two teams broke for halftime. After pushing the lead to 43-points, 51-8, by the end of the third quarter, the Lady Eagles cruised in for the final 42-point, 60-18 win.
Coach Fields acknowledged the offense and defense when he continued his reflections on the game by saying, “I thought we executed our game plan pretty well except for way too many fouls, especially in the second quarter. Our defensive pressure resulted in some easy transition points.”
The Lady Eagle stifling defense pressured BAM into 34 turnovers which included 26 steals.
All the Lady Eagle scoring came from four players led by Grace Prescott who had a huge night with a game high 20 points while dishing out four assists and making five steals. Addison Swenson pitched in with 15 points, five assists, three rebounds and nine steals. Joy Pyle recorded a double-double as she scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Freshman Sidney Hall scored 11 while grabbing four rebounds.
Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by adding, “Grace (Prescott) had a solid game despite coming into halftime with just a couple of points at which time she challenged the team to not let up in the third quarter. Grace backed up her words, scoring 14 of the teams 16 points in the third quarter. Addison (Swenson) was incredibly active on defense while Joy (Pyle) had most her points in the first half while finishing with a double-double. Sidney (Hall) had another great game as well. We had her give some different looks on defense and she did a really nice job of causing problems for the other team.”
