ELYRIA SWEEPS PAIR FROM HERRINGTON

By Staff
ELYRIA – It finished out a good week on Friday for the Elyria Christian girls’ and boys’ basketball teams as they swept visiting Herrington with the Lady Eagles scoring a 38-30 victory while the Eagle boys won 74-30.

The win for the boys moves their season record to 13-4 as they continue to be ranked in the top five of Class 1A Division II. No other game information was made available.
For the Lady Eagles, they improved their season mark to 10-7 with the victory.
It was the Lady Eagle defense that directed the game in the first half as they held Herrington scoreless in the first quarter by taking an 11-0 lead and then stretched the advantage to 22-points, 24-2, heading into the halftime break.
Herrington made a game of it in the second half, outscoring Elyria 5-13 in the third quarter and 9-15 in the fourth quarter as the Lady Eagles held on for the final eight-point win, 38-30.
“We jumped out to a huge 24-2 halftime lead,” pointed out Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “I told the girls at the break that Herrington will shoot their way back into the game if we give them open looks. That is exactly what happened, fortunately our defense stepped up enough in the last few minutes to preserve the win.”
Addison Swenson led the Lady Eagles on offense by tying the single season record in three-pointers by hitting three while scoring 15 points. Grace Prescott chipped in with nine and Joy Pyle dominated the boards with nine rebounds.
The Elyria boys and girls will host Goessel on Tuesday.
