ELYRIA WINS PAIR AT WAKEFIELD

By Staff
WAKEFIELD – Both the Elyria Christian boys’ and girls’ basketball teams scored impressive wins on the road Tuesday in Wakefield with the Eagle boys winning by 54, 70-16 and the Lady Eagles getting a ten-point, 38-28 victory.
With the win the Eagle boys are now 11-4 for the season and ranked in the top five of Class 1A Division II while the Lady Eagles pulled their season mark above .500 at 8-6. Both teams are scheduled to play at Rural Vista on Thursday and then finish out the week with a home game against Herrington.

For the Lady Eagles, they trailed by two, 10-12, at the end of the first quarter before pulling ahead by one, 21-20, going into the halftime break. Holding Wakefield to just four points in each of the final quarters of action while scoring 17, gave the Lady Eagles the final 10-point, 38-28, win.
“This is a good road win for us,” explained Lady Eagle head coach Greg Fields. “It is always a hard place to play at Wakefield as they came out fast to take an early 8-0 lead to start the game. Once our girls settled down and understood the physical nature of the game, they did a nice job of executing plays.”
Joy Pyle had a big game as she scored a game high 20 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Addison Swenson pitched in with nine points to go with three steals and seven assists.
Coach Fields concluded his post-game reflections by saying, “Joy (Pyle) had a huge game as she played with a lot of strength tonight. Addison (Swenson) had her best game of the season distributing the ball. Sidney (Hall) hit a couple of big threes and Kami (Noggle) hit a big shot when we were made a run.”
We had no other information on the boy’s game at press time.
