CANTON – What a homecoming game it was for the fans of Canto/Galva football as the Eagles outscored Solomon 70-24 for a win on Friday.


Now 2-1 for the season, the Eagles will tangle at home with Norwich next Friday, September 22. Norwich will come into the gam 1-2 after a 62-14 win over Pretty Prairie on Friday.


Against Solomon, the Eagles took a 40-0 first quarter lead on a Leyton Witte return of an interception plus a pair of scoring runs from 17 and 29 yards out. Lane McMannis sprinted 65 yards for a score and Jaden Ediger connected with Wyatt Collins on a 35-yard scoring pass as well.


Solomon scored twice to put the score at 40-12 before the Eagles scored twice on a 32-yard run by Witte and an 11-yard run by McMannis. Solomon scored twice more in the second quarter with an Ediger to Collins, 65-yard pass play for a score sandwiched in between, leaving the Eagles with a 64-24 advantage at the halftime break.


Canton/Galva then added one score in the third, a McMannis 21-yard dash to the end zone to finish off the scoring at 70=24 and closing out the game due to the eight-man point rules.


The Eagles picked up 373 yards in offense on just 30 snaps while holding Solomon to only 187 on 42 plays.


Individually, Jaden Ediger directed the offense and completed four of eleven passes for 146 yards and the two scores while both Lane McMannis and Leyton Witte went over 100 yards rushing at 120 and 107, respectively.


Both Witte and McMannis led the defense with 5 tackles each.
