EAGLES EARNS DISTRICT TITLE WITH 68-20 WIN

WHITE CITY – On Thursday, Canton/Galva went on the road and won their 8-Man Division II District II championship with a resounding 68-20 win over Rural Vista.


Now 7-1 for the season and one of seven district top seeds in the 8-Man Division II playoffs, the Eagles wait for the games on Friday to determine who they will play in the first round of regional action.

Lane McMannis, a senior Eagle, had a monster game as he returned a pair of kickoffs 70 yards for touchdowns while running the ball nine times for 174 yards and another three touchdowns all while leading the defense in tackles with 16.5 tackles.


Leyton Witte, another senior Eagle, contributed with two running touchdowns while both Wyatt Collins and Jaden Ediger also punched into the end zone on runs.


Wyatt Collins and Witte also topped the defense with 10.5 and 10 tackles, respectively.


As a team, the Eagles scored twice in both the first and second quarters while Rural Vista found the end zone twice in the second quarter, leaving Canton/Galva with a 30-14 advantage going into the halftime break.


To finish out the game, the Eagles scored three more times in the third quarter before adding two more in the fourth with Rural Vista getting one to get to the final score of 68-20.


In possible the toughest game since game one at Little River, Canton/Galva managed to roll up 325 yards in offense on just 28 plays that included 250 yards rushing and 75 yards passing, while Rural Vista nicked the Eagle defense for 313 total yards on 67 plays that included 269 yards on the ground.
