CANTON – Friday evening the Canton/Galva football team took another big step toward a run to an 8-Man Division II state championship by dominating Colony/Crest at home in scoring a 56-8 win.
Now 8-1 on the season, the Eagles will next battle with Frankfort at home on Friday, November 3 for a regional championship. Frankfort is 7-2 on the season after shutting out Beloit St. John’s/Tipton Catholic on Thursday, 60-0.
The story of the game on Friday was senior Eagle Lane McMannis as he ran for 168 yards and scored four touchdowns on just nine carries plus catching a pair of passes for 19 yards and a score. McMannis also returned an opening kickoff back for a score for the fourth time this season while recording 6.5 tackles on defense.

After McMannis ran the opening kickoff back for a score, Colony/Crest had their one long drive which resulted in a touchdown pass and two-point conversion, giving them a brief 8-6 lead over the Eagles before McMannis scored twice and Schamp scored once in the first quarter to push Canton/Galva out to a commanding 28-8 lead.
After Ediger sprinted 44 yards for a score to give the Eagles a 36-8 halftime lead, McMannis ran for three scores in the third quarter to put the game away with the final 48-point, 56-8 win.
Leyton Witte and Wyatt Collins combined for 22.5 tackles in leading the Eagle defense to hold Colony/Crest to just 160 yards on 51 offensive snaps while Canton/Galva picked up a total of 346 yards on offense with only 31 plays.
