CKYRA RODEO ROLLS THROUGH THE WEEKEND

CANTON – For the third time this season and getting it done despite the extreme heat of the weekend, the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA) had a two-day rodeo at the McPherson County Fairgrounds in Canton on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.

Twenty-Six county youth participated in 28 events over the two-day rodeo. To cover for the weather canceled June rodeo, the CKYRA will have a makeup rodeo the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, August 5-6 before closing out the 2023 season with the rodeo finals on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13.

On Saturday, July 29, four area youth finished first in five events with Kaylee Rafaelsen of McPherson winning both the Pole Bending and Goats/Girls in the 5-8 Division while Avery Weis of Marquette won the Barrel Racing of the same division and Emma Krase of Galva and Asa Courtney of Canton scored wins in the Barrel Racing and Goat Tying, respectively, in the 9-12 Division.

Forty-One times an area rodeo contestant finished in the top five of an event on Saturday.

For Sunday, July 30, just three area youth won an event including Lane McMannis for Team Heading in the 9-12 Division, and both Levi Henry and Faith McMannis in the 5-8 Division for Goats/Boys and Team Heading. Area rodeo contestants finished in the top five of their event on Sunday 39 times.

After three weekend rodeos, Addalaya Cathey of Canton is the leader for Goats/Girls in the 2-4 Division. In the 9-12 Division, Wyatt Henry of Canton leads in Chute Dogging and Lakyn Allenbach of Moundridge is tops in Goat Tying. Both Kaylee Rafaelsen of McPherson and Levi Henry of Canton hold double leads in events for the 5-8 Division with Rafaelsen topping both Pole Bending and Goats/Girls and Henry leading both Breakaway and Goats/Boys.

All around leaders heading into the final two weekends of rodeo action include Korbin Henry with 235 points in the 2-4 Girls Division, Levi Henry with 144 points in the 5-8 Boys Division and Kaylee Rafaelsen in the 5-8 Girls Division with 151 points while Keaton Ryan of Canton tops the 9-12 Boys Division with 149 points.
