CKYRA HOLDS FINAL 2023 RODEO EVENT

CANTON – On Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13, the Central Kansas Youth Rodeo Association (CKYRA) held their final rodeo event of the 2023 season and had 22 McPherson County area youth participate.

On Saturday, 22 area rodeo contestants had 64 entries over 27 events in four divisions where they recorded 32 top-five finishes. Of the top-five finishes, area contestants had eight first and eight second-place finishes.

Among the top finishers were Avery Weis of Marquette who took first in both Pole Bending and Barrel Racing for the 5-8 Division while Levi Henry won the Goats/Boys as well.

In the 9-12 Division, Lakyn Allenbach of Moundridge won the Goat Tying, Katy Prieb of Canton took first in Pole Bending and Keaton Ryan of Canton won Chute Dogging. Korbin Hogg of Canton took first in Pole Bending and Kaylor Rouse won Barrel Racing in the 2-4 Division.

In the final rodeo event of the 2023 season on Sunday, 21 area contestants had 67 entries in 27 events over the four divisions. They scored 36 top-five finishes that included eight first-place wins and 13 second-place finishers.

In the 2-4 Division, Jovey Henry of Canton and Kaylor Rouse of Galva both earned a first-place finish in the Goats/Girls and Pole Bending, respectively.

Makynna Allenbach of Moundridge took first in Goats/Girls of the 5-8 Division and Kaylee Rafaelsen of McPherson won Pole Bending.

Area competitors took first four times in the 9-12 Division, including a pair of first-place finishes from Emma Krase of Galva as she won both the Barrel Racing and Pole Bending. Keaton Ryan took first in Chute Dogging for the second day in a row and Asa Courtney was tops in Goat Tying.
